Telemedicine has been a long time in the making but we are all resistant to change. Sometimes it takes a seismic event to change the accepted norms of society. The current Covid-19 crisis has forced many doctors and patients to consider remote consultations as the only realistic option. There is mounting evidence that in a large proportion of cases this is proving very satisfactory and safe. We are all on a steep learning curve but recent publications by the British Medical Journal and the General Medical Council (the body that regulates doctors) suggest that with appropriate considerations and safeguards remote consultation can become part of the new normal.
You can watch the short video below to get an idea of how I like to conduct video consultations.
I am very happy to see you in person or remotely. If you are considering surgery, the majority of the consultation can be performed remotely. This will significantly limit the amount of time that you need to be in hospital or clinic for assessment.
